Moving Through the "Dogma Daze" of Your Spiritual Journey
Do you ever feel like you're going through the spiritual motions? That you're in a "Dogma Daze," disconnected from the powerful vibration of your Higher Nature? You might just be syncing with the vibration of this time of year: The Dog Days of Summer! Characterized by the most oppressive heat of the summer, the Dog Days can lead to a slower pace, and make us feel lackadaisical and lazy.
Another perspective on this season is to view it as a profound invitation to rest. From a MetaSpiritual sense, we can see this as a call to move beyond the spiritual "hustle" and into a deeper, more profound state of release. Let's explore what it means to move beyond the "Dogma Daze" of our journey, and simply be—to rediscover our oneness with our Higher Nature—and realize it comes, not from what we do, but in the stillness of who we are.
A Brief History of the "Dog Days"
The term "Dog Days of Summer" has a fascinating history rooted in ancient astronomy. It has nothing to do with lazy, panting dogs dealing with the heat in whatever ways they can (although we love that whimsical image!), but rather with the "Dog Star," Sirius.
Ancient Origins: Thousands of years ago, ancient civilizations like the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians observed that the hottest part of the summer coincided with the period when the brightest star in the sky, Sirius (part of the constellation Canis Major, or "Greater Dog"), rose and set with the sun.
The Belief: They believed that the combined heat of the sun and this brilliant star caused the sweltering, humid, and often oppressive weather. In fact, the name "Sirius" comes from the Greek word for "scorching" or "glowing." The Romans called this period dies caniculares, which literally means "days of the dog star."
Today: While we now know that Sirius is far too distant to have any effect on Earth's temperature, the name stuck. Today, the term simply refers to the hottest, most languid days of summer, typically from early July to mid-August in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a perfect symbol for a time when things slow down and the heat makes us want to rest.
How to Move Through Your Own "Dogma Daze" on Your Spiritual Journey
We understand how your Spiritual Journey can sometimes leave you feeling stuck, frustrated, and disconnected. In fact, we sometimes hear even the most committed and energized folks in our Spiritual Community express a feeling that none of their usual practices seem to be working, and they feel like they're stuck in a cul-de-sac of despair, tiredness, and weariness. So, we've got some ideas to help you get out of that uncomfortable space, and move back into that incredible feeling of connectedness and high vibration.
Here's a key idea -- and it may just surprise you! The key is not to add more to our spiritual to-do list, but to shift our intention. The strategies that follow are not about working harder, but about finding moments of rest and quiet release, allowing the brilliance of your Higher Nature to shine through the stillness.
This is a Time for a Spiritual "Un-genda"
What's a Spiritual "Un-genda"? We are encouraging you to lay aside all the scheduled spiritual practices you normally! We know! You never expected to hear us say that, right? But it is a perfect practice when you're experiencing a spiritual Dogma Daze!
For example:
Replace affirmations with a simple, quiet breath.
Replace meditation with a time to just be still. Sit, or take a wonderful walk in nature, and just "BE" in the presence of your Higher Nature.

This is a Time for Spiritual Hydration
The phrase "Dog Days" creates an image of a parched, dry landscape, which is a great metaphor for your spirit when you are feeling dry, disconnected, and empty. We urge you to recognize these feelings as symptoms of a spiritual drought, where your usual sources of inspiration seem to evaporated.
Just as regular hydration is critical for your survival during a heat wave, your soul also calls out for spiritual hydration. The goal is not to 'find' the water, but rather to remember you are a part of the vast, interconnected stream in the field of Infinite Potential.
A nice visualization can be useful here. Close your eyes and imagine a deep well of light and energy within yourself, filling you and flowing out to the world.

This is a Time to Get Serious with Sirius
Remember, we shared the origins of Dog Days comes from the Dog Star, Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. For a period, it rises and sets with the sun, making irt invisible to our eyes. Yet we know it is always there, shining with its own light, even when overshadowed by a greater light. What a beautiful metaphor for our own Inner Light!
Cosmic Consciousness and our Inner Light are always present and unwavering, even during times when they feel obscured by the mundane, the difficult, or the simply overwhelming. The Dog Days remind us that while the "sun" of daily life may be intense, our essential nature—our Higher Self—is constant and eternal.
This is a great time to do some simple Star Gazing. Look up in the night sky and consciously acknowledge the stars as symbols of their own unchanging light.

So, as we settle into these Dog Days, let’s give ourselves a break if we're experiencing Dogma Daze! This is a time to put away our spiritual to-do lists and stop chasing what we think we should be. Cosmic consciousness isn't grading us on our meditation time or our affirmations per day. We are simply being invited to rest, to be still, and to remember the quiet Truth of who we are. This is a call to move beyond any dogma and relax into a deep, peaceful daze.
So kick your feet up, find a patch of shade, and simply be. This is your time to be present with the profound, cosmic reality that is your life—no guilt, no hustle, just the simple, powerful act of existing.
